HAVING survived cancer, Mark Wherritt wants to give something back to the organisation that helped him through his darkest days - the Cancer Council.
The Fairfield Heights grandfather has signed up for the Fairfield Relay for Life in the hope of raising much-needed funds for the charity.
“It’s my first time in it,” he said. “My relatives got me involved
“I just want to give something back.”
Having just found out he’s in remission, Mr Wherritt is on the road to recovery.
He’s enjoying spending time with his grandson and has rediscovered his passion for painting, a hobby he began more than 25 years ago.
“I still have a lot of side effects and things but it inspired me to get back into painting,” he said.
As well as walking in the Fairfield Relay for Life on October 16, Mr Wherritt has painted two portraits that will be put up for auction at a fundraising dinner on July 31
